Tutton records new career-high

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 22, 2017) – It was a back and forth battle between both teams, but ETSU fell to UNCG in four sets (22-25, 25-18, 24-26, 20-25) on Friday evening in Brooks Gym. Junior middle blocker (Braedyn Tutton (Courtice, Ontario) recorded a new career-high of ten kills in tonight’s match. Tutton was on fire throughout the game placing the ball well and hitting it where UNCG was unable to control.

Rylee Milhorn (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded her fifth double-double of the season. She gave the Bucs a team-high of 14 kills today. Alyssa Kvarta (Crown Point, Ind.) and Lexie Libs (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) combined for 44 assists.

Set 1: The Bucs took the lead in the first set, but as soon as UNCG tied the match, they kept building and building. After trailing for most of the set, the Bucs tied it at 19 after four errors in a row by the Spartans. Kaela Massey (Brentwood, Tenn.) tied the set at 21, but UNCG was powerful in their kills to end the match 25-22.

Set 2: Once again the Bucs earned the first point on a Massey kill after the Bucs took a 3-0 lead. They continued to stay in control of this set and there was no way the Spartans were going to catch their lead. Kills by Rylee Milhorn, Leah Clayton (Danville, Va.) and Tutton were key throughout this set.

Set 3: The most intense set of them all came from set number three where the final score was 26-24. Despite being behind the whole set, the Bucs fought back and continued to catch UNCG as each play occurred. Clayton got the Bucs within reach after a kill to make the score 20-21. The rest of the set went back and forth throughout each point. Tutton gave the Bucs back to back kills, but UNCG’s Ashley Muench secured the win with a powerful kill.

Set 4: ETSU suffered five errors early on before fighting back against the Spartans. Tutton, Milhorn, and Clayton continued to hammer the ball with their kills, but Muench once again ended the set and match with her 21st kill of the match.

Up Next: ETSU will have two back to back away games beginning with Furman on Friday (Sept. 29) and The Citadel on Saturday (Sept. 30).
