ETSU, Chattanooga, and Wofford each have a 4-2 record in conference play

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (October 10, 2017) – After two back-to-back home wins, the Bucs look to continue that success as they begin a four-game road stint. ETSU has a 4-2 conference record as they are tied with Chattanooga and Wofford who they will take on this week. They will take on Chattanooga on Wednesday, Oct. 11 and Wofford on Friday, Oct. 13. with both matches beginning at 6:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: ETSU swept Mercer and won in four against Samford last weekend at home. Leah Clayton (Danville, Va.) led the Bucs recording back-back doubles. Clayton finished the weekend with 29 kills, 21 digs and also picked up six blocks. Freshman libero (Marija Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia) had 35 digs on the weekend and continued to stay solid for the Bucs. Rylee Milhorn (Kingsport, Tenn.) also picked up a double-double on Saturday with ten kills and 11 digs. AJ Lux (Shelbyville, Ind.) contributed to the front line with 15 kills on Saturday as well.

SERIES HISTORY:

ETSU vs. Chattanooga: ETSU and Chattanooga split their matches during the regular season. The last time they traveled to Chattanooga, they lost 3-1. ETSU holds the all-time series of 32-31.

ETSU vs. Wofford: Through 23 games, ETSU has only lost five times against Wofford. Their 18 games that they have won include two sweeps against Wofford in 2016.

A LOOK AT ETSU: Sitting at 4-2 in conference play and 8-9 overall, the Bucs are tied with Chattanooga and Wofford for second place in the conference currently. ETSU ranks third in the conference with a .213 hitting percentage. Lux is currently ninth in the conference with her .253 hitting percentage. The Bucs rank fourth in assists and fifth in kills and service aces. For the fourth straight week, the Bucs lead the conference in blocks. Milhorn is ranked eighth in kills, while Alyssa Kvarta (Crown Point, Ind.) is ranked eighth in assists. With 63 service aces, Milhorn also ranks third in the SoCon. Lastly, Braedyn Tutton (Courtice, Ontario) is tied for third in blocks and Popovic is ranked fifth in the conference in digs.

A LOOK AT CHATTANOOGA: Chattanooga was picked to finish third tying with Samford as they both received 46 votes. The Mocs sit a 4-2 with an 11-9 overall record. Their two losses came from Western Carolina and the undefeated Furman Paladins. Chattanooga is ranked first in the conference for assists and digs and are ranked third in kills. Chattanooga’s Ally Ford is ranked third in kills with 293, while Lauren Greenspoon is ranked first in assists and Megan Kaufman is also ranked first in digs. Kaufman was tabbed the September Defensive Player of the Month after finishing the month with 290 digs in 50 total sets. She averaged the conference-best of 5.80 digs per set.

A LOOK AT WOFFORD: The Terriers also have a 4-2 conference record with a 14-6 overall record. Wofford was picked to finish fifth in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Wofford’s Catie Cronister and Colleen Reilly were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team. Cronister was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season this week. She led her team to a perfect 3-0 weekend and had three double-doubles. She picked up a new career-high of 30 kills and she is ranked fifth in the country with 330 kills and ranked second in the country with 44 aces. Cronister will be a huge threat for the Bucs. Lorissa King is Wofford’s setter as Taylor Gill is their libero. As a team, Wofford is ranked second in the conference for their hitting percentage and are ranked first in aces.
