SPARTANBURG, S.C. (October 13, 2017) – The Bucs picked up their fifth straight conference win with a 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-11, 25-17) win over Wofford on Friday night at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C. Junior AJ Lux (Shelbyville, Ind.) had 14 kills while finishing with a .393 hitting percentage. Braedyn Tutton (Courtice, Ontario) finished with six kills, a .462 hitting percentage and a new personal best of ten blocks.
Set 1: Leah Clayton (Danville, Va.) got things started for the Bucs with a kill. Braedyn Tutton and Rylee Milhorn (Kinsport, Tenn.) tallied kills before ETSU’s blocking game came alive. Kaela Massey (Brentwood, Tenn.) began with a solo block and then combined with Mariah McPartland (Boone, Iowa) to give the Bucs a 7-2 lead. McPartland and Milhorn then combined for another ETSU block. The Bucs were on a roll as Clayton and Milhorn were dominant with their attacks and helped ETSU build their lead. Clayton had six kills in the first set, while Milhorn had four. ETSU as a team had a .321 hitting percentage and came up with seven blocks to dominate the set. Tutton and Milhorn put the Bucs in place for set point, but Wofford’s attack error gave the Bucs a 25-16 win.
Set 2: Wofford came out with two kills in a row to give them a quick 2-0 lead, but ETSU crawled back with their powerful kills. Milhorn put the Bucs within one and AJ Lux tied the set at four. Milhorn then gave the Bucs two kills to give them a 6-4 lead, but Wofford answered back with three kills to regain their lead. To tie the set again, Lux came up with the kill for the Bucs. From there, each point was back and forth until Wofford went on 3-0 run, but Leah Clayton and Braedyn Tutton denied the Terriers to make the score 10-12. Wofford then went on another 3-0 run to put them ahead. Tutton gave the Bucs a kill before Wofford got four quick points to put them ahead. The Terriers continued to attack and build their lead. The Bucs added three more blocks to their campaign, but dropped the second set 19-25.
Set 3: Tutton began the set with a kill as the Bucs went on a 4-0 run to extend their lead. Wofford started to come back with blocks and kills, but ETSU stayed in control of the set the whole time. AJ Lux added five kills and could not be stopped. Tutton and Clayton combined once again to deny the Terriers with a block to give ETSU their eleventh block of the match. Clayton added three kills as Milhorn and Tutton each had two. Hailey Aguilar (Chicago, Ill.) gave the Bucs a service ace to extend their lead to 19-8. ETSU continued to go on two-point runs. Mariah McPartland put the Bucs within set point with a kill and ETSU won the set 25-11 after a Wofford attacking error.
Set 4: ETSU started off strong gaining a 4-1 lead. Service errors by both teams made the set close as Wofford tied the set at seven. Tutton and Clayton got the Bucs going with another block. Braedyn Tutton had three block assists in this set. Rylee Milhorn then went on a roll with three kills in a row to give the Bucs an 18-15 lead. Tutton put the Bucs within set point after her kill and AJ Lux found open space hammering the ball to secure the set and match 25-17.
Marija Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia) finished with 16 digs. Alyssa Kvarta (Crown Point, Ind.) had 27 assists, while Lexie Libs (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) had 17.
Rylee Milhorn had the team-high of 15 kills. Leah Clayton had 11 kills and six blocks to finish the match.
