LAST TIME OUT: The Bucs are coming off two five-set road matches. They won a thriller against UNCG, but fell to Western Carolina. At Western Carolina, Marija Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia) tied her career high of 20 digs, while Hailey Aguilar (Chicago, Ill.) picked up a new season high of 20 digs. Freshman setter Lexie Libs (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) also had a new career high of 28 assists, while Kvarta has led the Bucs in assists in every match this season.

SERIES HISTORY:

ETSU vs. The Citadel: The Bucs have not lost a single match against The Citadel dating back to 1998. The Bucs swept the Bulldogs earlier this season.

ETSU vs. Furman: ETSU has a 23-30 all-time record against Furman. Last year they split their matches during the regular season and won a second time, when they faced the Paladins in the SoCon Tournament. Earlier this year, Furman swept the Bucs on their home court in Greenville, S.C.

A LOOK AT ETSU: The Bucs are currently second in the conference with a 7-3 record and 11-10 overall record. Through conference statistics, ETSU is ranked second in three categories, all behind Furman who is in first. They are second with a .213 hitting percentage, second in assists per set, and second in kills. The Bucs are first in the conference for blocks and have remained first throughout the season in this category. Individually rounding out the rankings is Braedyn Tutton (Courtice, Ontario), who is fourth in her hitting percentage at .340. Two Bucs are ranked in kills as Rylee Milhorn is ranked sixth and Leah Clayton (Danville, Va.) is ranked eighth. Alyssa Kvarta is ranked eighth in assists, which is very impressive as ETSU is one of the only conference teams to run a 6-2 rotation. Tutton leads the lead in blocks per set and Kaela Massey (Brentwood, Tenn.) is working her way up to the top as she is currently ranked fifth. Lastly freshman libero and this week’s SoCon Defensive Player of the Week Marija Popovic, is ranked first in the conference in digs.

A LOOK AT THE CITADEL: The Citadel holds a 2-9 conference record with wins against Samford and Mercer. Sharlissa De Jesus is ranked sixth in the conference with her service aces, while Sarah Dobrich is ranked fourth in blocks per set. Outside hitter Moriah Smith, was named to the preseason All-Conference team and won this week’s Offensive Player of the Week honor.

A LOOK AT FURMAN: In the 2017 volleyball preseason coaches’ poll, Furman was picked to finish sixth, but now with a 9-0 conference record, they are the only undefeated team and first in the conference. They are ranked first in their hitting percentage, assists, and kills in conference standings. They are led by Courtney Hoffman who is second in the conference with a .360 hitting percentage, Hunter Thompson who leads the conference in assists, and Jamila Johnson who is fourth in kills. Meg DeMaar is second with her service aces as well. Throughout the season, Furman has yet to lose a match on their home court. During conference play, they have swept four teams and have yet to battle in a five-set match against conference opponents.
