JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 7, 2017) – The ETSU volleyball team will host Chattanooga on Wednesday, Nov. 8 inside Brooks Gym for their last mid-week conference match. They conclude the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 11 when they host Wofford.
LAST TIME OUT: The Bucs are coming off an exciting 2-0 weekend with wins over Samford and Mercer. ETSU beat Samford in four sets, while sweeping Mercer in three. Rylee Milhorn (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Leah Clayton (Danville, Va.) were unstoppable on the front line with their powerful kills. Both recorded double-digit kills in the back to back matches. Setters Lexie Libs (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) and Alyssa Kvarta (Crown Point, Ind.) continued to set up the hitters well after receiving the ball from libero Marija Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia), who has been tremendous for the Bucs all season defensively. ETSU’s blocking game continues to thrive.
SERIES HISTORY: Last year, the Bucs and the Mocs split their matches during the regular season. ETSU holds the all-time series of 33-31. Earlier in the season, ETSU won a five-set match over Chattanooga.
A LOOK AT ETSU: The Bucs still remain in second with an 11-3 conference record. ETSU ranks first in the conference with a .223 hitting percentage. The Bucs are both fourth in assists and kills and still remain first in blocks, as they have all season. Rylee Milhorn is second in the SoCon in service aces. Alyssa Kvarta holds her spot at eighth in the conference in assists. Braedyn Tutton (Courtice, Ontario) also holds her spot in first place in blocks, while Marija Popovic is second in the conference in digs. Popovic was also named the October Defensive Player of the Month, announced by the SoCon last week.
A LOOK AT CHATTANOOGA: The Mocs are currently 6-8 in conference play, putting them in sixth. They are coming off the weekend with two losses, coming from Mercer and Samford, both of which they fell in five sets. The Mocs hold a 1-6 record in five-set matches, with their only five-set win coming from The Citadel. Chattanooga is fifth in both assists, kills, and service aces in the conference. They are first in digs, led by Megan Kaufman who is also first in the SoCon.
