JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 27, 2018) – The ETSU volleyball team is back home this weekend, as they host two SoCon opponents in Brooks Gym. They will welcome Samford Friday, Sept. 28 at 6:00 p.m. and Chattanooga on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2:00 p.m. Saturday’s match will also be a white out.

LAST TIME OUT: The Bucs had their longest break of the season with their last outing being on Sept. 19 at Western Carolina. ETSU swept the Catamounts to pick up their seventh three-set match of the season. Senior Alyssa Kvarta (Crown Point, Ind.) tallied her 2,000th career assist in the Bucs’ win.
ETSU vs. Samford: This will be the 11th all-time meeting. ETSU holds a 7-3 record against the Bulldogs and won both contests last season in four sets.
ETSU vs. Chattanooga: This will be the 66th meeting in program history. ETSU holds a 34-31 all-time record against the Mocs.
A LOOK AT ETSU: The Bucs are having a very successful season, as they enter the weekend with a 12-3 overall record and a 1-0 SoCon record. They continue to receive votes in both polls and are currently No. 20 in the VolleyMag Mid-Major Poll. Leah Clayton (Danville, Va.), AJ Lux (Shelbyville, Ind.) and Kaela Massey (Brentwood, Tenn.) are the Bucs dominant hitters. Kvarta continues to shine to set up her hitters and also produces some points herself with her dumps. Marija Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Hailey Aguilar (Chicago, Ill.) captain the back row with her passes, while Braedyn Tutton (Courtice, Ontario) and Mariah McPartland (Boone, Iowa) spark the Bucs offensively and defensively with their kills and blocks. The Bucs are playing very well as a team.
A LOOK AT SAMFORD: Samford has a 7-9 overall record and are 2-0 in conference play with wins over Furman and Wofford. They won both SoCon matches in four sets. Samford’s production comes from upperclassmen Krista Boesing and Kelsi Hobbs, both who have tallied 200 or more kills on the season. Shayla Phillip will be one to look out for, as she leads the Bulldogs in blocks and Taylor Anderton is Samford’s primary setter.
A LOOK AT CHATTANOOGA: Chattanooga is also 2-0 in conference play with wins over Furman and Wofford. The Mocs hold a 6-9 overall record. They had a seven-game losing streak before entering conference action. Dani Szczepanski and Mikaela Gauthreaux will be two players to look out for as they lead the Mocs in kills and blocks. They also return sophomore libero Megan Kaufman and have seen great production from freshman setter Jaquelyn Langhaim.
