SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Dec. 6, 2018) – Senior middle blocker Mariah McPartland (Boone, Iowa) has been named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Month for the month of November, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. This is McPartland’s first career monthly honor.
In eight matches for the Bucs, McPartland played in 26 sets, averaging 1.27 blocks per set. She helped ETSU to their second straight Southern Conference championship appearance and their first ever NCAA at large bid, earning back-to-back trips to the NCAA Division I volleyball tournament.
McPartland started the month just short of a double-double with nine kills and eight blocks at Furman. She had two or more blocks in both performances against Wofford and The Citadel. On her senior day, McPartland recorded a .300 hitting percentage and four blocks. She had a standout performance against The Citadel in the opening round of the SoCon tournament, registering seven kills, a .600 hitting percentage, and five blocks. She had seven kills and seven blocks in the championship match against Samford. Lastly McPartland had seven kills, .357 hitting percentage, and four blocks against No. 12 Purdue in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Throughout the month, McPartland was also named to the All-SoCon Second Team and is currently ranked 39th nationally in total blocks.
