Marquis Clark

East Tennessee State University volleyball head coach Lindsey Devine announced the hiring of Marquis Clark as an assistant coach on June 20, 2014.

Clark carries nine-plus years of coaching experience with him to Johnson City, while spending last season as a volunteer assistant at Wichita State. Prior to his coaching stint with the perennial power Shockers, Clark served as the head coach at Cloud County Community College from 2010-12. Clark began his coaching career at Dodge City Community College and made two stops as an assistant at Manhattan High School.

“I am very happy to welcome Marquis Clark to the ETSU Volleyball family and staff,” said Devine. “I knew after interviewing Marquis that he was a perfect fit for our program. He has a strong work ethic, passion for the sport, and brings high statistical volleyball knowledge to our program.”

As for Clark, he’s excited to be on board and hopes to help guide the Bucs to another NCAA Tournament appearance.

“I'm excited to be part of the ETSU family,” commented Clark. “Getting the opportunity to coach Division I volleyball is an honor and I’m extremely lucky to get the chance to work for an amazing coach in Lindsey Devine. I'm looking forward to meeting the team, and getting to work on helping this group win another conference championship and get back to the NCAA Tournament.”

During his time at Wichita State, Clark was in charge of scouting, analyzing team and opponent statistics, creating game plans, working with player training and helping with skill and team camps. Last season, Wichita State was ranked in the top 25 of the AVCA Coaches Poll and made its seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance after finishing the season at 28-7.

Clark received his first head coaching position at Cloud County Community College in May of 2010. During his three years with the T-Birds, Clark coached a pair of KJCCC all-conference selections, while also directing Cloud County to the NJCAA Region VI Tournament in each of the three seasons. Clark was also in charge of recruiting, team budgets, strength training, and assisted with local club teams in player and coach development.

Along with his stints at Dodge City Community College and Manhattan High School, Clark has also coached on the club circuit. Clark coached the Kansas Volleyball Club from 2008-12, ICT Elite from 2012-13 and the Shockwave Volleyball Academy from 2013-14.

Clark received his bachelor’s degree from Kansas State in 2004 and earned his master’s degree in political science from Kansas State in 2008. Clark was a member of the Kansas State men’s track and field team where he was a two-time regional championship qualifier in the high jump and also a three-time All-Big 12 academic award winner.
