JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 16, 2003) - East Tennessee State head women's basketball coach Karen Kemp announced Monday the signing of two additional players to this year's recruiting class. Junior college transfers Kristin Klemm (Cookeville, Tenn.) and Jennifer West (Sylvania, Ala.) haved signed National Letters of Intent to join the Buccaneers for the 2003-04 season.
Klemm, a 6-foot-0 forward, spent the last two seasons at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tenn. She averaged 14 points and 7.6 rebounds per game last season and finished her sophomore campaign second on the team in scoring and second in field goal percentage (45.4%). She scored a season-high 24 points in a 74-62 victory over Gadsden State.
West comes to the Lady Bucs from Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where she averaged 6.2 points per game as the team's point guard. The 5-foot-8 junior scored in double figures seven times last season, and shot 37.2% from three-point range, an area where ETSU struggled as a team in 2002-03.
"Both Kristin and Jennifer bring college experience to our perimeter play," Kemp said. "Jennifer can handle the ball and sees the floor extremely well. Kristin, on the other hand, adds much needed size and she plays very well with her back to the basket."
Klemm and West will join freshmen Brooke Wilhoit (Sevierville, Tenn.), Whitney Tate (Woodbury, Tenn.), and Holly Morning (Irmo, S.C.) as others who have already signed with ETSU.
