JOHNSON CITY, TENN. (Jan. 6, 2005) - East Tennessee State senior Tiffani Mayes (Sumter, S.C.) has been named the Southern Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Month for the month of December, it was announced today. A forward from Sumter, SC, Mayes posted a career-high 30 points against Charlotte on December 6, shooting 55 percent (11-of-20) from the field and pulling down eight rebounds, while she led the Southern Conference in scoring in December, averaging 19.8 points.
Mayes scored in double figures in all five games during the month, including a double-double performance of 20 points and 13 rebounds against Furman on December 20. Her 19.5 points per game rank her 22nd in the nation in games played through Jan. 3. Mayes is currently the only member of the Lady Bucs squad to be recognized nationally for her performance on the court and the first player for ETSU since the 1995 season to be ranked in the points per game category.
ETSU will resume Southern Conference play on Saturday Jan. 8 when they host Davidson College for a 7:00 p.m. match-up. The game will be broadcast through the C-SET television network, while pre-game and play-by-play analysis with the voice of the Bucs, Jay Sandos will begin at 6:00 p.m. from Memorial Center.
