Tennessee State placed four players in double figures to slip past the Lady Bucs (1-1). ETSU had come into the Gentry Center following a season-opening victory at preseason Ohio Valley Conference favorite Tennessee Tech on Friday.
Lakisha Clay led the Lady Tigers balanced scoring attack with 17 points while Quanecia Fletcher came off the bench to score 15 points and have six steals. Kendra Bailey had 12 points and game-high 11 rebounds. Leslie Dean rounded out the double figure scoring with 11 points for the Lady Tigers. TSU shot 23-59 (39 percent) from the floor and 15-22 (68 percent from the free throw line.
ETSU was led by sophomore guard Holly Moring's (Irmo, S.C.) 12 points. Junior guard B.J.Banjo (Baltimore, Md.) scored 11 and freshman guard Alisha Holmes (Orangeburg, S.C.) added 10 for the Lady Bucs. ETSU was 17-42 from the field (40.5 percent) and 15-28 from the free throw line (43.8 percent).
TSU took the lead for good at 53-51 on a Clay field goal with 1:54 remaining. The game featured 10 lead changes and nine ties.
ETSU returns to action on Monday at 7 p.m. for the Lady Bucs' home opener against Tusculum College from Memorial Center.
