Leading up to the 2008-09 ETSU women's basketball season, the ETSU media relations office, with help from graduate assistant Lindsay Christensen, will feature player profiles on all 12 of the Lady Buccaneer student-athletes. This new segment allows fans to catch a glimpse of what each player is doing off the court, as the Lady Bucs look to make a run at their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Sophomore post Brittany Daniels (
Daniels, a 6-0 post player, was expected to give ETSU some valuable minutes this season, but after suffering a season-ending injury last month, the Shellman,
BD: Originally I had planned to attend Georgia State, but I made a last minute decision to sign here and play ball. I liked the campus and I was interested in the basketball program.
LC: What is the best part about being in
BD: My plan was to work hard so I can go play basketball and get out of Shellman, Ga. But also, the atmosphere here is great. Everyone is so nice, and I have the best teammates.
LC: Tell me about the academic side of your life.
BD: I don't have a major picked out yet. I'm thinking of doing business, marketing, or exercise science. I'm still figuring it all out before I have to declare next year. One thing I know is that I want to be my own boss someday.
LC: What are your strengths and weaknesses on the court?
BD: I feel confident with most aspects of my game. My weakness is post defense.
LC: What are your expectations for the team this year?
BD: I'm hoping we will repeat and go to the NCAA tournament again. Obviously, I won't be playing, but I think we have a good shot of getting there.
LC: Your injury is going to keep you out all season. What kind of an impact does that have on you and the rest of the Lady Bucs?
BD: I think the team will be alright without me. I know I could make a contribution if I was healthy, but the team will find a way around it. My only plans for myself include rehab, rehab, and more rehab. My comeback depends on how that rehab goes.
LC: What do you do in your spare time?
BD: Sleep, sleep, and sleep. I also like to listen to music, hang out with friends, eat, and sleep some more!
LC: If you could move to one foreign country, where would you choose, and why?
BD: I would go to
LC: Who is your biggest motivator?
BD: Haters! Anyone who criticizes or knocks what I do makes me work that much harder to prove them wrong. When people tell me I can't do something, I am sure to find a way a to get it done.
LC: What is one drastic change you would make about yourself?
BD: I wish I was taller. If I was I could dunk, which would completely change the game.
LC: What do you miss most about your home?
BD: My mother's home cooking - especially collard greens and cornbread.
LC: If you had to change lives with one teammate, who would it be, and why?
BD: I would trade with Tara Davis. In a lot of ways she is different than me, even though in some ways we're alike. She is so nice and cares about everyone. Also, she is driven to the point where she refuses to accept failure. I think this is the reason she is so good on the basketball court and does amazing in school.
LC: What are your plans for after graduation?
BD: I want to move to
Even though fans cannot see Daniels in action this season, they will still see her on the bench cheering her Lady Buccaneer teammates on, starting this Monday, Nov. 3 when ETSU hosts University of the Cumberlands. Tip is set for 7 p.m. inside
