JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 12, 2011) – After suffering an 87-76 setback to Tennessee Tech in the first round of the Preseason WNIT on Friday night, the ETSU women’s basketball team will now hit the road to play its final two games of the tournament, beginning Friday, Nov. 18. The Lady Bucs face Conference USA foe UAB at 6:30 p.m. (Eastern) inside Burton Coliseum, located on the campus of McNeese State University.
The two other teams in the Lady Bucs’ pod are host McNeese State and Manhattan. The Cowgirls and Jaspers will tip off 30 minutes after the conclusion of the ETSU/UAB game on Friday. The winners from Friday night’s games will then square off in the consolation championship, while the losing teams square off in a third-place game on Saturday. The game times for Saturday are 1 p.m. (Eastern) and 3 p.m. (Eastern); however, McNeese State will automatically be placed into the 1 p.m. time slot.
The Lady Bucs and Blazers have met six times in program history with the series being knotted at three games apiece. The last time ETSU played UAB was on Dec. 17, 1995, and the Lady Bucs defeated the Blazers, 84-80, in the South Florida Holiday Classic in Tampa.
ETSU has never faced McNeese State (Southland Conference) and Manhattan (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference).
UAB lost to Chattanooga 65-59 in Chattanooga on Friday night, while McNeese State fell to UCLA, 67-59, and Hartford beat Manhattan, 64-45.
