MACON, Ga. (Feb. 28, 2012) – After putting in hard work both on the court and in the classroom, senior guard Natalie Pickwell (Kingsport, Tenn.) was recognized for her efforts as the Lady Buccaneer sharpshooter was placed on the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team, which was released by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Pickwell – who leads the Lady Bucs in three-pointers made (48) and is second on the team in scoring (10.2) this season – has posted a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.73 while working towards a degree in Interior Design with a minor in Marketing.
“Natalie is an outstanding student-athlete and has meant so much to our program over the last four years,” said head coach Karen Kemp. “To see what Natalie has accomplished both on the court and in the classroom during her career is a testament to her strong work ethic. We spend a lot of time on the road in between two academic semesters, so it’s an honor for Natalie to be recognized for her achievements.”
The four-year letterwinner has been named to the Dean's List four times and is a four-time member on the A-Sun All-Academic List during her career at ETSU.
This season, Pickwell has scored in double figures 12 times, including four 20-plus point efforts, while also recording her first career double-double (11 points/10 rebounds) against Mercer back on Jan. 7 inside the MSHA Athletic Center. Pickwell has netted four threes five times in 2011-12, and scored a season-high 23 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc earlier this year at Appalachian State.
Joining Pickwell on the All-Academic Team were Anna Bowers and Morgan Faulkner from Lipscomb, Sarah Hansen and Courtney Chihil from FGCU, and Kennesaw State’s Taylor Mills. Hansen was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year after posting a 3.95 GPA while majoring in chemistry and guiding the Eagles to a perfect 18-0 conference season.
The A-Sun introduced the new sport-by-sport Academic All-Conference teams this fall to recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better and participated in at least half of their team’s games.
