Bucs finding avenues to give back to the community in the midst of a busy offseason
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 7, 2014) – The ETSU women’s basketball program engaged in another community service effort last week when the student-athletes volunteered their time to assist at the Tennessee Area 3 Special Olympics Track & Field Games inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Center.
On Friday, May 2, team members provided a helping hand in various activities -- including medal presentation -- at the Games which featured more than 400 participants.
Activities at the Games commenced at 9:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies. Wheelchair and walk races, as well as the standing long jump, followed to begin competition for the day. Events ran throughout the late morning and early afternoon before ending with the 200 and 1500 meter dash, as well as the softball throw, at 1 p.m.
This volunteer experience for the ETSU women’s basketball team is its second in less than a month in the midst of a busy offseason which already features workouts and finishing up the semester strong in the classroom. Read about the team’s prior community service efforts in late April here.
