Chattanooga, Tenn. (Jan. 28, 2002) -- Chattanooga scored the first 13 points of the game and never looked back as the Lady Mocs defeated te Lady Bucs, 75-47, Monday night at The McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Chattanooga had a double-digit lead less than four minutes into the game and rolled to their season-best sixth consecutive victory. ETSU falls to 8-12 and 3-8 in Southern Conference play. The Lady Mocs are 14-6 overall and 8-3 in the conference.
Miranda Warfield's 14 points led balanced UTC scoring as every player saw action for the fourth time in the last five games. Jennifer Wilson scored 12 points, heather Dykes nine and Nneka Irons seven.
UTC won it with defense, holding ETSU to 34.4 percent shooting overall and just 2-for-20 on 3-pointers (10 percent). The Lady Mocs forced 23 turnovers and Warfield tied her season high with three steals.
ETSU was led by Misty Copas' (Kingsport, Tenn.) 10 points and seven each from Kiya Verdell (Hartwell, Ga.), Megan Jackson (Paris, Tenn.) and Ashley Reed(Barrackville, W.Va.).
UTC controlled the backboard 49-32 as Wilson and Dykes both had eight and Shamya Sermons pulled seven. Heather McDivitt had five assists and Mandy
Rollins had three assists. Wilson and Warfield were both 6-for-9 from the field and Warfield canned a pair of 3-pointers.
The Lady Bucs return to the road Saturday night as they face Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. from Statesboro, Ga.
