JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 17, 2001) - East Tennessee State Lady Buc freshman guard Ashley Reed (Barrackville, W.Va.) was named to the Active Ankle Bearcat Invitational All-Tournament Team following Sunday afternoon's championship game. Reed led the Lady Bucs to a third-place finish in the tournament that also included Belmont, Cincinnati and Troy State. The freshman led the team in scoring, rebounds and steals in Saturday afternoon's 94-71 loss to undefeated Belmont. Reed came off of the bench to score 18 points, pull down six rebounds and record three steals in 26 minutes of play. She shot 7-17 from the floor, including 4-10 from three-point range. Ashley was rewarded for her great game on Saturday with her first collegiate start Sunday in the consolation game of the Bearcat Invitational against Troy State. Reed responded immediately by scoring 11 points in the first half, leading ETSU to a 45-32 halftime lead. Troy State made an impressive run in the second half, cutting the lead to as few as three on several occasions late in the game. With ETSU up by just four, 73-69 with 57 seconds remaining, Reed had the ball with the shot clock running down. Reed drove the lane and hit a running jumper over the taller Troy State post players to give ETSU a six-point lead and essentially seal the victory. Reed had 18 points against Troy State on 6-16 shooting and knocked down four three-pointers for the second game in a row. Reed also had five rebounds on the afternoon. For the tournament, Reed averaged 18 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists per game. She shot 39 percent (13-33) from the field and 40 percent (8-20) from three-point range. For the season, Reed leads the Lady Bucs with 14.4 points per game. She has hit a team leading 28 three pointers and is shooting 43 percent from behind the three-point arc. The Lady Bucs will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 5 p.m. against Tennessee Tech. The game will be the front end of a doubleheader with the ETSU men's team playing the University of Virginia at Wise at 7:30 p.m.
