JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 18, 2003) - East Tennessee State's women's basketball head coach Karen Kemp announced Tuesday the signing of 6-foot-2 post players Angela Estes (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Jennifer Norman (Peachtree City, Ga.) to National Letters of Intent, along with perimeter player Michele DeVault (Columbus, Ohio).
Estes averaged 10 points and 11 rebounds per game as a sophomore. She is one of three players out of Mount Notre Dame High School to sign with a Division I program during the NCAA's early signing period.
"Angela comes from a very good high school program in Ohio," said Kemp. "The fact that she has a teammate, who signed with Elon and another with UConn, shows what caliber of play she is used to. Her best basketball is still of ahead of her."
Norman averaged 10 points per contest and nine rebounds as a junior at Starr's Mill High School.
"Jennifer has also played with players who have signed with the likes of Florida State, Auburn, etc.," said Kemp. "She is a very athletic post player and will fit into our system extremely well.
"Collectively, this is probably the tallest group we've signed at one time since I've been here," Kemp added. "
DeVault, a 5-10 forward, comes to ETSU from Upper Arlington High School. Last season she averaged 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists per game.
"Michele brings us some much-needed height around the perimeter, said Kemp. "She's very athletic, and runs the floor extremely well. Michele can do everything from shoot the 3-pointer to slash to the hoop.
"I give a lot of credit to my coaching staff," Kemp added. "Once these young ladies visited the campus, the coaches took over and did good at impressing the players and their parents. These kids are good players, good people, and good students. I feel fortunate to have these three signed early."
