Lady Bucs to face Mercer Wednesday night on CSS

Saturday, March 01, 2008

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Mar. 1, 2008) - The Atlantic Sun Conference announced game times for the upcoming women's basketball tournament, and the top-seed Lady Buccaneers will take on the eight-seeded Mercer Wednesday evening. Tip is set for 7 p.m. EST on CSS inside Allen Arena.

ETSU earned the conference crown outright with its 84-56 victory over USC Upstate Saturday. Now the Lady Bucs take their game to Nashville and look to earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

The Lady Bucs defeated Mercer in the lone meeting this season, 88-57, back on Feb. 4 inside Memorial Center. ETSU leads the all-time series 6-4 versus the Bears; however, Mercer knocked the Lady Bucs out of the 2006 A-Sun Tournament with its 59-56 overtime win.

The winner of ETSU/Mercer will advance to the semifinals and face the winner of host Lipscomb/Belmont on Friday at 2:15 p.m. The game will also be aired live on CSS.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Jacksonville will take on No. 7 Stetson as they kick off the four-day single-elimination tournament Wednesday afternoon at noon. The winner of that game will take on Gardner-Webb/Campbell.
