JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 5, 2008) - The ETSU women's basketball team is enjoying its hottest run of the season and sophomore star Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) is one of many reasons for the recent Lady Buccaneer success. On Tuesday, Evans was recognized for her hard work as the league office named her the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week.

Evans, who helped guide ETSU to a pair of wins over Kennesaw State and Mercer, just missed averaging a double-double over the weekend. The Griffin, Ga. native tallied 14 points and nine rebounds in 24.5 minutes of work for the Lady Bucs. The reigning A-Sun Freshman Player of the Year, hit 52.9 percent (9-17) of her shots, going 4-of-6 (66.7) from beyond the arc and 6-for-7 (85.7) from the free throw line.

On Saturday, Evans notched her 14th career double-double in an 81-77 come from behind victory over the Lady Owls. Evans scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in the critical conference victory. Then, on Monday, the versatile player scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out two assists and forced two steals in 22 minutes against Mercer. ETSU defeated the Bears by 31, 88-57, as all 13 Lady Buccaneer players reached the scoring and rebounding column.

This is Evans' second career Player of the Week honor, and completes a sweep of weekly awards for ETSU; marking the third time this season (and second consecutive week) an institution has received both weekly honors. On Monday, junior Kevin Tiggs (Flint, Mich.) received the award for the men's team.

The Lady Bucs are in the midst of a season-best six-game win streak and have posted a program record seven straight conference wins. ETSU looks to stay tied atop the league standings (with Jacksonville) when they face Stetson this Saturday. Tip is set for 3 p.m. inside the Edmunds Center.

The Atlantic Sun Conference is a 12-member league committed to Building Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high level of sportsmanship.
