Lady Bucs put winning streaks on the line Thursday against Campbell
Wednesday, January 21, 2009

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 21 , 2009) - Since dropping its conference opener at Mercer last month, the Lady Buccaneers have been a completely different team, as ETSU has gone on to rattle off seven straight wins against A-Sun foes. ETSU will look to extend its streak to eight straight when they host Campbell on Thursday evening. Tip time is set for 4:45 p.m. inside Memorial Center.

In addition to their seven-game conference winning streak, the Lady Bucs have also won 10 consecutive A-Sun home games and 17 straight against current league foes inside Memorial Center.

ETSU extended its home conference winning streak and overall conference winning streak on Saturday, when the Lady Bucs cruised by Lipscomb, 70-51. Junior Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) led the Lady Bucs with 17 points and 11 rebounds, marking her eighth double-double of the season (23rd of her career). As a team, ETSU forced a season-high 20 steals and drained a season-best seven 3-pointers.

Junior TaRonda Wiles (Danville, Va.) has also been on fire over the past three games. After 20.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 3.3 steals in games at Liberty and versus Belmont and Lipscomb last week, the Danville, Va. native was tabbed A-Sun Player of the Week on Monday.

After posting an impressive non-conference mark of 7-2, the Campbell women's basketball team has struggled once it entered A-Sun play, as the Lady Camels have dropped six of their first eight games in league play. Campbell, who was picked sixth by the media and tied for eighth in the preseason Atlantic Sun Coaches' poll, is led by sophomore forward Lauren Yesh and junior center Ashley Williamson. Yesh leads the team in scoring (10.1), while Williamson is averaging 8.8 points per game and a team-best 7.6 rebounds.

The Lady Bucs defeated Campbell twice last year - including a 72-53 win in Johnson City - where ETSU set a new school record with 24 steals in the contest. Once again the Lady Bucs used a strong second half effort in Buies Creek, N.C. to knock off the Lady Camels, 78-61, inside Carter Gym. ETSU is a perfect 6-0 lifetime against the Fighting Camels.
