Senior guard overcomes injury to post fifth career weekly award

MACON, Ga. (Dec. 28, 2009) - Senior guard Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) wasn't at full strength last week, but that didn't stop the Griffin, Ga. native from receiving Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors, which was announced Monday by the league office.

Evans, who was nursing a sore knee, helped guide the Lady Bucs to a 77-72 win over Jacksonville last Monday night inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center. The Preseason A-Sun Player of the Year recorded her sixth straight double-double - finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds in the five-point win over the Dolphins. Evans and the Lady Bucs secured the win with clutch free throw shooting, as the 5-11 guard went a perfect 10-for-10 at the charity stripe, becoming only the fourth player in school history to make at least 10 consecutive free throws in a game.

During her streak of six straight double-doubles, Evans is averaging 20.0 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.2 steals. In addition to her strong effort against Jacksonville, Evans also moved past Regina Blair for fourth all-time on the ETSU rebounding charts (Evans with 860).

This marks the first weekly award for the Sport Management major on the year and the fifth of her career.
