Lady Bucs, Bruins square off in afternoon matinee inside the Music City

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 22, 2010) - The ETSU women's basketball team will put its season-long five-game winning streak on the line when the Lady Bucs square off with Belmont on Saturday afternoon inside the Curb Event Center. Tip is set for 3 p.m. (Eastern).

 

The Lady Bucs extended their winning streak to five straight with a 76-65 victory over Lipscomb on Thursday evening at Allen Arena. Senior TaRonda Wiles (Danville, Va.) paced ETSU (9-7, 7-1 in A-Sun) with a game-high 25 points, while fellow senior Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) came off the bench to score 14 points in 14 minutes of action. To with Wiles' 25 points, the Danville, Va. native also tallied five rebounds, five assists and two steals in 40 minutes of work.

 

Belmont (9-8, 4-5) is coming off a 74-67 loss to Campbell on Thursday evening in Nashville. The Bruins led by 13 points with 14 minutes remaining, but the Camels shot 63 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from beyond arc in the second half to rally for the seven-point win. Three Belmont players scored in double figures on Thursday with senior preseason all-conference selection Amber Rockwell leading the charge at 18. Rockwell is also the team's leading scorer with 13.9 points per game, while Haley Nelson is one of three players in the A-Sun to be averaging a double-double (12.8pts/10.3rebs).

 

The Lady Bucs currently lead the all-time series, 7-5. Since falling to the Bruins in the 2007 conference title game, ETSU has rattled off four straight wins with all four games being decided by 10 or more points. The Lady Bucs knocked off Belmont, 86-76, in the last meeting back on Feb. 15, 2009 in Nashville. Four Lady Buccaneer players scored in double figures with Evans recording 14 points and 12 rebounds.

 

Fans unable to make the trip to Nashville can listen to all the action live, as "Voice of the Lady Bucs" Don Helman will handle the play-by-play duties. Fans in Johnson City should tune into WKPT-AM (1590), WOPI-AM (1490) in Bristol, WKPT-AM (1400) in Kingsport. In addition, 94.3-FM in Kingsport, 97.9-FM in Bristol, and 97.7-FM in Johnson City will carry the game. Live video streaming is also available through ASun.TV and live stats will be offered through www.belmontbruins.cstv.com.
