Lady Bucs return home to host Stetson
Wednesday, January 13, 2010

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 13, 2010) - After finishing off a season-long five-game road swing on a positive note, the ETSU women's basketball team finally returns home for the first time in 2010, when the Lady Bucs host Stetson on Thursday evening. Tip is set for 4:45 p.m. inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.

The Lady Bucs are coming off back-to-back conference road wins over Kennesaw State and Mercer last week, and ETSU (6-7, 4-1) now sits a game and a half back of league-leader Florida Gulf Coast in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings.

ETSU knocked off Kennesaw State by 31, 90-59, on Thursday afternoon inside the KSU Convocation Center, and followed that up with a 21-point victory over Mercer (81-60) on Saturday in Macon, Ga. The Lady Bucs were red-hot from beyond the arc in the two monstrous wins, as ETSU shot 56.4 percent (22-39) from 3-point range and outscored its opponents 85.5 to 59.5 (+26.0). ETSU had four players average in double figures in the pair of wins, with senior Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) leading the way at 19.5 points and 14.0 rebounds. In addition, junior newcomer Tarita Gordon (Wichita, Kan.) filled in nicely for the injured Tara Davis (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) at the point, as Gordon averaged 17.5 points, 7.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in the two starts. Gordon also hit five of her seven shots from beyond the arc. Despite battling back issues, Davis stepped up in the win over Mercer by finishing with a career-high 19 points (5-of-6 from three) in only 17 minutes of action.

Through five league games, ETSU finds itself leading the A-Sun in eight statistical categories - scoring offense (81.6), free throw shooting (80.8), field goal percentages (43.2), 3-point field goal percentages (37.6), rebounding defense (35.0), rebounding margin (+10.2), assists (17.4) and steals (11.8).

Like the Lady Bucs, Stetson enters Thursday's contest on a two-game winning streak, as the Hatters defeated Jacksonville (68-62) and North Florida (58-56) last weekend in DeLand. The Hatters dropped seven straight games to begin the year, but have picked up play in conference action as Stetson currently stands 3-12, 3-3 in A-Sun.

The Hatters are led by junior guard Tierra Brown, who leads the team in scoring (9.9) and assists (3.6). Junior post Jessica Conner leads Stetson with 8.4 rebounds and is averaging 12.4 points in conference play.

ETSU leads the all-time series, 7-1, and the Lady Bucs have won the last seven meetings - including a 92-63 victory back on Feb. 5, 2009 in Johnson City.

Fans unable to make the trip to Johnson City can listen to all the action live, as "Voice of the Lady Bucs" Don Helman will handle the play-by-play duties. Fans in Johnson City should tune into WKPT-AM (1590), WOPI-AM (1490) in Bristol, WKPT-AM (1400) in Kingsport.
