Friday, March 05, 2010

MACON, Ga. (March 5, 2010) - For the fourth straight year the ETSU women's basketball team will be playing in the Atlantic Sun championship game, as the Lady Bucs square off with North Florida on Saturday. Tip is set for noon inside Mercer's University Center.

The Lady Bucs (22-8) moved on to the finals after holding off a strong Belmont squad, 77-63, on Friday afternoon. Senior Player of the Year Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds - marking her 53rd career double-double. Meanwhile, junior newcomer Tarita Gordon (Wichita, Kan.) exploded in the second half - finishing with 18 of her 20 points in the final 20 minutes.

UNF (12-19), a number seven seed, is the lowest seed to advance to the championship game after knocking off host Mercer (55-40) on Wednesday and Jacksonville on Friday, 50-46. Brittany Kirkland and Juliemay Syquio each scored 10 points for UNF; while Arlande Cherizol came through with six points and 13 rebounds in the four-point win over the Dolphins.

The Lady Bucs swept the Ospreys during the regular season and lead the all-time series, 8-1. ETSU defeated UNF last week in Jacksonville, as the Lady Bucs used a 26-9 run in the final 9-plus minutes to come away with the 68-58 victory. ETSU also knocked off the Ospreys, 82-54, back on Dec. 5 in Johnson City.  Evans is averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds this season against UNF; while TaRonda Wiles (Danville, Va.) is posting 14.5 points per game.
