Sunday, February 21, 2010

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 21, 2010) - The ETSU women's basketball team will look to send off senior standouts Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) and TaRonda Wiles (Danville, Va.) with a perfect home record on Monday night, as the Lady Bucs take on USC Upstate in their home finale. Tip is set for 7 p.m. inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.

ETSU (17-8, 15-2 in A-Sun) has won 13 of its last 14 games, and the Lady Bucs are a perfect 10-0 at home this season. In those ten games, ETSU is averaging 83.1 points; while five players are recording double figures in scoring with Wiles leading the charge at 17.4 points per game. Evans also enjoys the home atmosphere, as the guard is scoring 14.4 points per contest and pulling down 9.1 rebounds. The opposition is averaging 65.2 points and four opponents have been held to 61 points or less.

Evans and Wiles have meant so much to the Lady Buccaneer program since arriving in the fall of 2006, as this duo has combined to score 3,106 points, grab 1,561 rebounds, dish out 534 assists and force 377 steals. Furthermore, these two all-conference stars have led the Lady Bucs to three straight postseason appearances - including two straight NCAA Tournaments - and have compiled 78 wins in three-plus seasons. Evans is only the third player in school history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds - ranking third in rebounds (1,034) and fifth in scoring (1,705). Meanwhile, Wiles ranks sixth all-time in scoring (1,401) and leads the A-Sun with her 18.2ppg this season.

USC Upstate (18-8, 12-5) enters Monday's game as one of the hottest teams in the league, as the Spartans have won four straight and nine of their last ten games. The Spartans are coming off a 76-74 win over Campbell on Saturday afternoon, where Chelsea McMillan had a dominating performance - finishing with 14 points and 16 rebounds. As a team, Upstate forced the Lady Camels into 30 turnovers and the Spartans scored 33 points off those miscues.

The Lady Bucs have won four of the five games in this series; however, the Spartans took the last meeting, 85-78, back on Jan. 4 in Spartanburg. In that game, McMillan went off for 31 points and 11 rebounds and Wiles led the Lady Bucs with 25 points. However, ETSU went 3-of-16 from beyond the arc; while Upstate finished 6-of-19 from three and 23-for-26 at the free throw line.

The game can be seen live regionally on CSS with Matt Stewart handling play-by-play duties and Robin Muller alongside as the color analyst.
