Lady Bucs look to extend home winning streak to ten on Saturday

Friday, February 12, 2010

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 12, 2010) - The Lady Bucs' home winning streak is at nine and counting.

ETSU looks to make it ten straight wins on Saturday afternoon when the Lady Bucs host Kennesaw State inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center. Tip is set for 1:30 p.m.

The Lady Bucs, who improved to 14-8, 13-2 in A-Sun play with their 83-71 win over Mercer on Thursday night, currently sit a game and a half back from league-leading Florida Gulf Coast.

Four Lady Buccaneer players scored in double figures Thursday night, and senior Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) joined an elite group at ETSU. Evans recorded her 1,000th career rebound against the Bears - becoming only the third player in program history to join the 1,000 point, 1,000 rebound club. The Preseason Atlantic Sun Player of the Year finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds, and currently sits third all-time in rebounding (1,013) and fifth in scoring (1,684).

Kennesaw State enters Saturday's contest on a hot streak, as the Owls have won three straight and bring a record of 8-16, 5-10 into Johnson City. The Owls are coming off a 67-58 victory over Campbell on Thursday night where sophomore guard Angie Smith totaled a game-high 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Overall, Kennesaw State ranks eighth in scoring offense (59.2) and ninth in scoring defense (69.1). Furthermore, six of the Owls' eight wins have come at home, while the other two have been picked up on the road.

The Lady Bucs have won all eight games in the series and ETSU is coming off a 90-59 win over Kennesaw State back on Jan. 7 in Georgia. ETSU shot 58.7 percent for the game (37-63) and nailed 10 of its 15 three-point attempts. Junior newcomer Tarita Gordon (Wichita, Kan.) enjoyed her first start in Blue and Gold, as the Wichita, Kan. native scored 21 points, dished out a career-high 12 assists and pulled down seven rebounds in that contest.

Fans unable to make the trip to Johnson City can catch all the action live through ASun.TV. Live stats will also be available through ETSUBucs.com.

In addition, ETSU students who attend Saturday's contest - along with a handful of selected Lady Buccaneer games - will have a chance to win a Nintendo Wii and enter a drawing for a $1,000 cash giveaway, which will be announced at the last regular season game on Feb. 22. Each time ETSU students attend a Lady Buccaneer game, they will have an opportunity to enter the drawing for more chances to win the cash prize at the end of the season against USC Upstate.

Saturday's game also marks ETSU's annual WBCA Pink Zone game, as the Lady Bucs are joining arms with the WBCA to create awareness for breast cancer. Fans who wear pink to the game on Saturday will receive $1 admission, while long-sleeve pink shirts and swords will be on sale. Also, fellow Lady Buccaneer standout Jenny Norman (Peachtree City, Ga.) will be an honorary coach, as Saturday's game will be dedicated to her mother Lynn after she passed away with breast cancer back in December.
