Bluffton, Ga. native captures fourth Newcomer of the Week accolade
MACON, Ga. (Feb. 8, 2011) - Last Tuesday, freshman standout Destiny Mitchell (Bluffton, Ga.) won her first Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honor, and today the Bluffton, Ga. native received her fourth Newcomer of the Week accolade after posting double-doubles this past weekend against Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast.
Mitchell, who currently has 11 double-doubles on the season, averaged 18.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and shot 70 percent from the field (16-23) in the two games for the Lady Bucs. The Bluffton, Ga. native began the week with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the 80-62 win over Stetson Saturday afternoon in DeLand, Fla. Mitchell then followed that up with another double-double - finishing with 17 points and 12 rebounds in the 81-65 setback at FGCU Monday night. Mitchell shot 8-of-10 from the field and also dished out three assists versus the Eagles.
The 11 double-doubles by Mitchell are the second highest this season by an A-Sun player, as USC Upstate's Chelsea McMillan has 13.
Mitchell and the Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon when ETSU hosts North Florida inside the MSHA Athletic Center. Tip is set for 1:30 p.m.
