JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 24, 2012) – Cara Bowling (Elizabethton, Tenn.) put up career numbers this past week and the Lady Buccaneer freshman guard/forward was recognized for the hard work as she was tabbed Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Bowling, who was inserted back into the starting lineup this past week, averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 assists for the Lady Bucs.
The Elizabethton native began the week by netting a career high 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting against Belmont on Thursday, while following that up with nine points, three rebounds, two assists, and a career-tying five steals in the 89-52 win over Lipscomb on Saturday inside the MSHA Athletic Center. In addition to her 16-point effort against the Bruins, Bowling also grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists in 23 minutes of action.
Bowling becomes the second Lady Buccaneer player to receive the Newcomer of the Week honor since the A-Sun established the award last season. Teammate and sophomore guard/forward Destiny Mitchell (Bluffton, Ga.) was a three-time recipient a year ago.
Bowling and the Lady Bucs are in action tonight as ETSU hosts LSU at 7 p.m. inside the Dome.
