Fans who wear pink Saturday receive $1 admission

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2012) – When the Lady Bucs take the hardwood on Saturday afternoon against North Florida, Blue and Gold won’t be the theme for the day. Instead, it will be “Pink.”

On Saturday, the Lady Bucs will “Play 4 Kay” and help create awareness for breast cancer, which took the life of Hall of Fame Coach Kay Yow back on Jan. 24, 2009. Yow was a past president and founding member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), and a galvanizing voice for the WBCA.

In 2007, the WBCA started the initiative with its “Pink Zone” theme, but this past year the organization rebranded the name in honor of Coach Yow to “Play 4 Kay.” The mission of the initiative has remained intact: a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund will continue to be the official charity of the initiative.

Prior to the game, over 150 local girl scouts will be treated to a sports clinic which will consist of basketball, volleyball, tennis, soccer, cheer/dance, and agility stations. Along with the sport stations, the girl scouts will be able to make posters for the game and cheer on the Lady Bucs.

Fans are asked to wear pink on Saturday, and those who do will receive $1 admission to the women’s game.

During the game, Mary Kay will have four sales representatives passing out free samples, while Cakes in a Cup are donating cupcakes as well. In addition, Austin Springs Spa of Johnson City will be on hand giving massages, facial treatments, and handing out samples.

Meanwhile, fans will have the opportunity to bid on autographed pink basketballs, pink jerseys, and a Austin Springs Spa package. Throughout the game, donation buckets will be passed and those who make contributions will receive their choice of a pink T-Shirt, pom-pom, or wristband.

Fans that are unable to attend but would still like to make a donation to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund can do so by visiting https://www.kayyow.com/sslpage.aspx?pid=298.
