JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 5, 2012) – The ETSU women’s basketball overcame a slow start to rout Young Harris, 79-59, on Monday night at ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center in the Lady Bucs final exhibition game.

Junior Destiny Mitchell (Bluffton, Ga.) was a rebound away from a double-double as she scored a game-high 25 points and added four steals. Newcomer Serena Clark (Tucker, Ga.) on the other hand was a point away from her own double-double as she grabbed 19 rebounds. Junior guard Shawn Randall (Orlando, Fla.) shot 50 percent (6-12) from the floor with 14 points off the bench while Amy Duke (Hendersonville, Tenn.) added 12 points of her own.

Young Harris took advantage of ETSU’s sluggish start by taking a 9-2 lead at the 13:52 mark. The Lady Bucs found their groove and went on 11-2 run, 13-11, to take ETSU’s first lead of the game with just over 10 minutes left in the half. With just under eight minutes left in the period, the Mountain Lions took their final lead of the game, 16-15, on a pair of free throws by Kaycee Cash. ETSU then went on to score eight unanswered, 22-16, with just under six minutes left, and the Lady Bucs were able to take an eight point lead, 36-28, in to halftime.

The Lady Bucs jumped out of the second-half with a six-minute 14-4 run, 50-34, and never looked back.  ETSU extended its lead to 26 points, 68-42, with the help of Randall’s eight points with 7:22 left in the contest.  Young Harris nailed two last minute three-pointers but too little too late as ETSU took the 79-59 victory.

The Mountain Lion’s Ladondra Johnson and Breanna Gleeson netted 17 points apiece to be the only two double digit scorers.

The Lady Bucs open their season on the road at High Point on Saturday. Tip is slated for 2 p.m., inside the Millis Center.
