ETSU will look to build off of encouraging signs displayed last week versus Milligan
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 7, 2014) – After getting the season started last week with an 84-53 exhibition victory over Milligan, the ETSU women’s basketball team will compete in its final tune-up for the regular season on Saturday when it welcomes the King Tornado to Brooks Gym at 7 p.m.
Last Saturday against Milligan, the Bucs displayed some encouraging early-season signs including four players in double-figures, 11 players reaching the scoring column and holding the Buffaloes to 31 percent shooting for the game. Senior Serena Clark (Stone Mountain, Ga.) led the scoring with 17 points, but the emergence of freshman point guard Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) -- who scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds in her collegiate debut -- is something to keep an eye on going forward.
King enters the 2014-15 season looking to contend in the Conference Carolinas with seven upperclassmen. A year ago, the Tornado compiled a 17-11 overall record after falling to eventual conference and regional champion Limestone in the Conference Carolinas semifinals. King also features a number of local products including Elizabethton native and senior Chelsea Bowling – cousin of current Buccaneer Cara Bowling – who transferred to the school following a one-year stint playing for ETSU in 2011-12.
