Second Freshman of the Week honor this season for the ETSU newcomer
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 6, 2015) – For the second time this season, ETSU freshman point guard Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) has been named CRONS Southern Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league office.
Tarter earned the honor after averaging 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game in a pair of contests since the holiday break. In a 76-64 home win against Iona on Dec. 29, the freshman stuffed the stat sheet with a team-high 16 points as well as seven rebounds, five steals, and three assists. The guard followed with 12 points and a season-best eight assists in a loss at No. 9 North Carolina on Jan. 2. In total, Tarter grabbed eight steals and recorded a .417 (10-24) shooting percentage over the two games.
The local product leads all SoCon freshmen in scoring at 12.7 points per game, while ranking second among all league players in assists at 3.9 per game. Tarter is also third in the conference with 40% shooting from three-point range this season and has a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio which is fourth best in the league.
This is the second Freshman of the Week honor for the ETSU newcomer after also winning the award on Dec. 16, 2014.
The Bucs will begin league play this week when it faces Southern Conference foe Furman on Jan. 10 in Greenville, South Carolina.
