JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 14, 2015) – Third year ETSU head women’s basketball coach Brittney Ezell announced Tuesday the signing of transfer Yamile Rodriguez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) for the upcoming 2015-16 season. Rodriguez transfers from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College where she averaged 6.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
During the 2014-15 season for the Lady Norse, Rodriguez played in 29 games, starting 12 and recorded five double-doubles. She managed back to back double-doubles off the bench scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds against Murray State College. She followed up that performance with another great outing the next night against Carl Albert State College where she collected 10 rebounds and scored a career-high 16 points.
“She will provide us with great size and strength at the post position,” said Ezell. “She is very physical in the paint and will be a matchup problem on the block.”
Rodriguez helped her team to a 22-8 overall record going 16-2 in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference en route to back-to-back regular season titles. Rodriguez established herself as one of the premier shot blockers in the NJCAA, collecting 42 blocks on the season which ranked fifth in the league. She also has a respectable offensive game shooting 53.7 percent from the field.
“She has great hands and footwork so we know she will pick up on our style of play very quickly,” said Ezell. “We believe that her best basketball is still ahead of her.”
Upon arriving at ETSU, Rodriguez will compete in the FIBA PanAm Games in Canada this summer as part of the Senior National Team of the Dominican Republic.
A native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Rodriguez will be able to compete during the 2015-16 season and will have two years of eligibility left at ETSU. She is the daughter of Pedro and Jacqueline Rodriguez and plans to major in Biology.
