SPARTANBURG, S.C. (October 22, 2015) – The Southern Conference announced its 2015-16 preseason all-conference teams on Thursday with junior Shamauria Bridges (Miramar, Fla.) and sophomore Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.)  representing ETSU. The Bucs were selected to finish third by the league’s head coaches and second by the league’s conference media.

A season ago, Bridges was the leading scorer for the Bucs averaging 12.5 point per game, with a staggering .343 shooting percentage from the field. It was the best points per game average by an ETSU player since the 2009-10 season as Bridges was named to the All-SoCon Second Team by the league media. During her career, she has amassed over 650 points with a .325 shooting percentage from behind the three-point line.

Tarter started and played in all 32 games for the Bucs last season averaging 11.8 points per game along with 4.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists en route to being named to the All-SoCon Freshman and First Team All-SoCon Tournament teams. In the three games of the SoCon Tournament, she averaged 12 points, five assists and eight rebounds. It’s the second preseason nod for Tarter as she was named to the Preseason All-SoCon Second Team by College Sports Madness last week.

Chattanooga led the way with three all-conference player selections. ETSU and Furman each had two.

After a 21-12 (11-3 SoCon) mark last season, the Bucs were selected to finish third by the league’s head coaches. ETSU received 35 points from the coaches, just one point behind Furman in second place with 36. Chattanooga is the preseason favorite with 49 points and seven first place votes.

The Bucs received one first place vote in the SoCon Media poll as the Bucs are predicted to finish second right behind Chattanooga with 19 first-place votes.

ETSU is coming off the second-best turnaround in the NCAA last season and an appearance in the SoCon Tournament Final and Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT). The Blue & Gold begin their season on Nov.13 when they host the Bulldogs of UNC-Asheville at 7 p.m. inside Brooks Gym.
