ASHEVILLE, N.C. (October 29, 2015) – As the start of the regular season looms, the Southern Conference held is Hoops Tip-Off Celebration on Thursday with ETSU women’s basketball head coach Brittney Ezell as one of the headline speakers.
In front of a packed room inside Pack’s Tavern in downtown Asheville, multiple SoCon officials, business owners and volunteers celebrated the start of another basketball season. Along with Ezell, Wofford men’s basketball head coach Mike Young also spoke to the crowd.
Speaking on behalf of the SoCon women’s basketball coaches, Ezell thanked who play a part in making Asheville the host city for the conference tournament each year.
“Our fans can’t say enough about the city of Asheville and their experience, it’s great,” said Ezell. “We can grow this tournament into one of the premier conference tournaments in the country.”
Also speaking at the event was SoCon commissioner John Iamarino who in the summer reached an agreement with representatives from Asheville to keep the men’s and women’s conference tournaments in Asheville until 2021.
“Thanks to the city of Asheville, staff and SoCon for getting and keeping the tournament here in Asheville where it belongs,” said Iamarino.
