JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 1, 2015) – The ETSU women’s basketball team is set to make the short trek down the interstate to square off with eighth-ranked Tennessee Wednesday night inside Thompson-Boling Arena. Fans can watch on SEC Network +, with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m.

ETSU continues its season long five game road swing with a stop in Knoxville, Tenn. for a showdown with the No.8 Tennessee Lady Vols. It will be the first meeting of the two programs since 2010 with UT leading the all-time series 14-1. ETSU is coming off back-to-back losses, falling to Eastern Kentucky and Elon. During the two game skid the Bucs have averaged just 39.5 points per game and 24.6 percent shooting.
It’s a Third Quarter Thing
Through seven games this season the Bucs have dominated coming out of the locker room at halftime outscoring opponents in the third quarter, 121-108. ETSU scored a season-high 25 points against Brevard to pull away for the home victory back on Nov. 21.
Never Say Never
ETSU has never defeated a nationally ranked opponent as their last game against a nationally ranked opponent came against No.17 Chattanooga in the SoCon Tournament Final.
Give me some Three’s
The Buccaneers have registered at least 20 three point attempts in seven straight contests. The Blue & Gold have a .270 percentage from beyond the three point line attempting 152 three’s. Junior Shamauria Bridges (Miramar, Fla.) leads ETSU with a .339 shooting percentage from long distance.
When you need an assist
Senior Chandler Christopher (Greeneville, Tenn.) leads the way for the Bucs in the assist department, registering 5.4 assists per game, which ranks third within the Southern Conference. Christopher has 38 assists this season with a high of eight against Eastern Kentucky.
Scouting the Lady Vols
Tennessee comes into Wednesday’s contest ranked eighth in the nation after falling in their last game on Sunday against No.5 Texas. The Lady Vols are 5-1 this season with signature victories over No. 25 Syracuse and SoCon rival Chattanooga. UT has four players averaging double digit points with redshirt sophomore Mercedes Russell leading the way with 13 points per game.
Last Time Out vs. Tennessee
The last meeting between the two schools came back in 2010 with the Lady Vols coming away with a 102-53 victory over the Bucs in Knoxville. ETSU was led by Destiny Mitchell who netted 10 points along with seven rebounds and two assists. ETSU shot 30.2 percent from the field while UT finished at 52.2 percent.
What’s Up Next?
ETSU ends its five game road trip on Saturday Dec. 5 when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on SEC member Vanderbilt at 2:00 p.m. The Bucs have a 2-4 all-time record against the Commodores.
