JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.  (November 17, 2016) – Fourth year head coach announced on Thursday the signings of Erica Haynes-Overton (Nashville, Tenn.), Alayjah Sherer (Tupelo, Miss.) and Britney Snowden (Pensacola, Fla.) to National Letters of Intent to join the program for the 2017-18 season.

“Thank you to Alayjah, Britney and Erica as well as their families and coaches for believing in our vision for ETSU Women’s Basketball and for joining the Buccaneer family,” said Ezell. “These three signees have the talent, potential and opportunity to impact our program in a variety of ways on and off the court.”

“They are high character people and high achieving student-athletes that all know how to win. Additionally, I want to praise our recruiting coordinator, Coach Nikki Davis for orchestrating such diligent recruiting efforts. Also want to thank our newest assistant coaches Coach Keisha McClinic and Coach Eric Dumas, for their hard work in signing this phenomenal 2017 class.”

Erica Haynes-Overton – 5’9” Guard – Nashville, Tenn. – East Nashville Magnet High

  • Ranks as the 6th best player according to MaxPreps in the state of Tennessee
  • In her junior season, she averaged 18.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.6 steals en route to lead East Nashville Magnet High to a 32-2 record and the program’s first state championship
  • District 10-AA MVP
  • She was named to the 2016 TSSAA All-Tournament team
  • Earned TSWA Class AA All-State honors in 2016
  • Earned USA Today Second Team All-Midstate honors
  • During her career has totaled 1,633 points

Erica can play at the rim, thrive in the midrange and score from the three-point line. She is a lockdown defender and a tenacious rebounder. Erica has a non-stop motor and a passion for the game that will be infectious to our program and fans.”

Alayjah Sherer – 5’11 Guard – Tupelo, MS. – Tupelo High School

  • Sherer made the Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen list, highlighting the top 12 high school basketball players in the state of Mississippi entering the 2016-17 season.
  • Since 2012, Sherer has played in 89 games, averaging 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game
  • During her junior season, Sherer recorded 20.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while shooting 46 percent from the field
  • Ranked as the No.3 Forward in the state of Mississippi by MaxPreps
  • Selected to play in the 2015 North/South All-Star Basketball Game
  • Helped her team to an overall record of 21-9 during her junior campaign
  • Early in her senior year, Sherer recorded a double-double vs. DeSoto Central, registering 37 points and 15 rebounds

Alayjah Sherer is a versatile guard with remarkable athleticism and size on the wing. She is a natural scorer that flourishes in transition. Alayjah has yet to tap into her full potential and her best basketball is still ahead of her. She competes on the glass on both ends and is the consummate team player.”

Britney Snowden – 6’0” Forward – Pensacola, Fla. – Northwest Florida State College

  • At Northwest Florida State College during the 2015 season played in 34 games, starting 32 recording 12.4 points and 10.0 rebounds per game
  • Helped NWF State to a 11-seed in the NJCAA Division I Tournament with an overall record of 22-12
  • NJCAA All-Academic Team / 2015-16 NWFSC President’s List
  • 2016 First Team All-Panhandle Conference selection
  • During her prep career at Pine Forest, won the 6A Florida State Championship
  • In 2014-15 was named the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches, 6A Player of the Year

Britney Snowden is a powerful post presence with a relentless work ethic. She is a natural leader with the ability to elevate the play of all those around her. A 4.0 student and a proven winner at the high school and junior college level, Britney will endear herself to teammates and fans alike with her blue collar workman-like approach.”
