JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (December 18, 2016) – The ETSU women’s basketball team heads to the Sunshine State over the holiday break to take part in the Miami Holiday Tournament, Dec.19-20. The Buccaneers will square off with Maine on Monday, Dec.19 at 3:00 p.m. inside the Watsco Center on the campus of the University of Miami.

Scouting the Buccaneers
ETSU is sitting at .500 with an overall record of 6-6 after falling to Elon, 79-51 at home on Saturday. In the last four games, the Bucs have alternated victories and look grab their first victory in the state of Florida since 2013. After losses this season, the Bucs have bounced back nicely, going 4-1.
Not So Familiar Foes
Of the three other teams in the Miami Holiday Tournament, the Bucs have never played against Maine or Coppin State. All-time ETSU is 1-0 against Miami with their lone victory coming in 1982.
Tarter Reaches 1,000 points
With 2:23 left in the third quarter against Elon, junior guard Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) became the 23rd member of ETSU Women’s Basketball’s 1,000-point club after hitting nothing but net on a free-throw. Tarter reached the career milestone in her 66th career game.
Bridges Eyes Three-Point Record
Senior Shamauria Bridges (Miramar, Fla.) will have the opportunity to secure a top spot in the ETSU record book in her home state. Bridges needs just three three-pointers to become ETSU’s all-time career leader in three’s made.
• Tarter has recorded double digit points in seven straight games.
• Bridges has recorded six straight games of double digit points.
Bench Play Looming Large
The Bucs have gotten consistent play from their bench this season receiving 251 of the total 802 points from the bench. The blue and gold have recorded eight games in which the bench as scored more than 20 points including a season-high 31 points off the bench against nationally ranked Tennessee.
Distributing the Wealth
All 14 players on the 2016-17 roster has scored at least one point this season.
Scouting the Maine Bears
To begin tournament play the Bucs will square off with the Maine Black Bears who have compiled an overall record of 6-5. Maine has won three straight contests while boasting the 45th toughest schedule in the NCAA. This season, the Black Bears have averaged 57.9 points per game while shooting 40.3 percent from the field.
What’s Up Next?
ETSU will end the Miami Holiday Tournament by either playing host school Miami or Coppin State on Tuesday, Dec. 20. On Tuesday the Bucs will either play at 3:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. inside the Watsco Center on the campus of the University of Miami.
