Women’s Hoops Travels to face Samford on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (January 6, 2017) – Looking to rebound from their Southern Conference opening defeat the ETSU women’s basketball team heads to Birmingham, Ala. for a match-up with Samford on Saturday, Jan.7 at 3:00 p.m. inside the Pete Hannah Center.

Scouting the Buccaneers
ETSU has an overall record of 8-8 this season and 0-1 in SoCon play after falling on the road to league-leading Mercer, 72-55. Against Mercer, the Bucs shot a season-low 12.5 percent from the three-point line, registering just two threes’. ETSU ranks as the fourth scoring offense in the SoCon with 65.3 points per game.

Rare Company
Junior Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) is one of only four players in the NCAA to lead a conference in scoring, be top five in field goal percentage and top five in minutes played.

Doesn’t Get to the Bucs
In the eight losses the season, the Bucs have found a way to bounce back recording an overall record of 5-2 when coming off a loss.

Road Warriors
Four of the next six games for the blue and gold are on the road including a trip to Birmingham, Ala., followed by a trip to rival Chattanooga.

ETSU is one of the best teams in the nation in getting to the free-throw line as the Bucs rank 7th in the NCAA in free-throw attempts with 349.

Scouting the Samford Bulldogs
Samford is 6-9 this season and is 0-1 in conference play after falling to Chattanooga, 77-61 on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have been struggling as of late dropping the last three games by an average of 8.3 points per game. Samford has two players averaging over ten points per game with Hannah Nichols (15.4ppg) and Kassidy Blevins (11.7ppg).
