ETSU and Samford will tip-off inside Brooks Gym at 11:00a.m.

JOHNSON CITY, TENN.  (February 1, 2017) – With a special tip-off time of 11:00 a.m. for ETSU’s annual Education Day, the ETSU Women’s Basketball team welcomes Samford to Brooks Gym on Thursday, Feb.2.

Scouting the Buccaneers
ETSU enters a pivotal Southern Conference weekend as the Bucs are third in the conference standings with an overall record of 13-9 and 5-2 in SoCon play. The blue and gold are currently on a season-high four game winning streak and have won four of their last five and seven of their last nine.

Tarter named SoCon Player of the Week
For an ETSU record fifth time this season, All-American candidate Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) was named SoCon Player of the Week for the week of Jan.24-31. In two games over the weekend against Furman and Wofford, Tarter averaged 31 points, 8.5 rebounds and six assists. For Tarter’s All-American Profile: CLICK HERE

The 1,000-Point Backcourt
Senior Shamauria Bridges (Miramar, Fla.) and Tianna Tarter have scored 756 of ETSU’s total 1,446 points this season, combining to make up 53 percent of the Buccaneer offense. Both Tarter and Bridges are members of the 1,000-point club while both are ranked in the top five in scoring within the SoCon.

Making the Most From the Charity Stripe
In the past six games, ETSU has made the most of their opportunity from the free-throw line, shooting a staggering 72.5 percent (79-of-109).

Home Sweet Home
Since 2014, the Buccaneers have a dominant home record of 27-10 while also being 17-3 during conference play at home. This season ETSU is 6-4 at home and 2-0 in Johnson City during SoCon play.

Dean Is the Key
Sophomore Raven Dean (Charlotte, N.C.) has controlled the boards the past few weeks as the sophomore forward has racked up double digit rebounds in four of the last five games. Dean is also a key contributor to Buccaneer victories as ETSU is 7-2 when Dean grabs at least eight rebounds and is 9-4 when she has at least five rebounds.

Buc Offense Playing Well
During the Bucs four-game winning streak, ETSU has 46.3 percent (100-of-216) from the field and 43.5 percent (30-of-69) from long distance.

Scouting the Samford Bulldogs
Samford has an overall record of 9-13 and 2-5 in the SoCon. The Bulldogs have alternated victories since Jan.12, falling in their last contest at Mercer, 59-49. Through 22 games, Samford leads the SoCon in defensive rebounding percentage (.703) and rank second in three-pointers made per game (6.6). Leading the Samford offense is junior Hannah Nichols who averages 14.3 points per game.
