JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 14, 2017) – The ETSU women’s basketball team is set to take on Appalachian State on Wednesday, Nov. 15 in Boone, N.C. This will be the 76th matchup between the two teams and the fifth matchup for head coach Brittney Ezell.

Wednesday, Nov. 15 | 6:00 p.m.

ETSU (1-1, 0-0 SoCon) vs. Appalachian State (0-2, 0-0 Sun Belt)

Scouting the Buccaneers

ETSU is 1-1 after two games. They opened up the season with an 87-77 victory over Cincinnati, but fell 87-49 to No. 14 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols. The newcomers for the Bucs have shined on the court, including Erica Haynes-Overton (Nashville, Tenn.), Britney Snowden (Pensacola, Fla.), Alayjah Sherer (Tupelo, Miss.), and Shy Copney (Johnson City, Tenn.) Against Cincinnati, Copney hit five three-pointers, finishing with 17 points. Sherer had the team high of 13 points against Tennessee, Snowden went 5-5 from the field goal line against Cincinnati, and Haynes-Overton finished with 16 points in her first collegiate game. Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Raven Dean (Charlotte, N.C.) continue to shine for the Bucs. Tarter recorded a double-double and Dean had a team high of 19 points against Cincinnati.

Scouting Appalachian State

Appalachian State only returns one starter in Madi Story, who is a senior guard/forward. Story averaged 6.9 rebounds per game and 13.3 points per game. They return four and welcome eight newcomers to the squad this year. Tierra Wilson seems to be the Mountaineers best three-point shooter, as she has five on the season in two games. Bayley Plummer has an average of 12.5 rebounds and a .375% field goal percentage. Appalachian State has two losses in Georgia Tech and Radford. In both games they combined to score 81 points.

Series History

Last season, the Bucs hosted Appalachian State inside Brooks Gym. It was a very close battle between the two as Tianna Tarter evaded two App State defenders and nailed a three-pointer with five seconds remaining. The Mountaineers were able to get a shot off from long distance that banked off the glass and went in for a buzzer-beater win. Tarter finished the game with 19 points, eight assists, and two rebounds. Malloree Schurr (Montgomery, Texas) led the Bucs with eight rebounds. Coach Ezell has a 1-3 record against Appalachian State and ETSU has a 33-42 all-time record against the Mountaineers.
