JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2018) – For the first time in 2018, the Bucs will travel for their first conference road game of the season. ETSU travels to Furman on Wednesday, Jan. 17 with a tip-off time set for 7:00 p.m. The Bucs are looking to stay undefeated in the conference.

Scouting the Buccaneers
The Bucs enter Wednesday’s game undefeated in the conference. In conference-only stats, ETSU is second with a 63.7 scoring offense, and a 53.3 scoring defense. ETSU leads the conference in offensive rebounds and steals, averaging 12.3 steals per game. Individually, five Bucs are among the top 30 scoring averages; Tarter, Haynes-Overton, Stephney, Dean, and Copney. All have been key impact scorers and have led the Bucs in scoring.
Nationally Ranked Stats
ETSU continues to be ranked against some of the top opponents in Division I women’s basketball. The Bucs are tenth in free throw attempts, free throws made, and turnovers forced. They are seventh in steals and ninth in steals per game. Lastly, they are 16th in offensive rebounds.
ETSU’s 65-58 win over Chattanooga snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Mocs and their first win since 2010.
ETSU comes into Wednesday’s game sitting at 10-8 and 3-0 in conference play. This is the first time since the 2014-2015 season that the Bucs have started conference play at 3-0. Their longest conference win streak also comes from this season when the Bucs started off 6-0. Currently, both men’s and women’s basketball teams are undefeated in conference play.
ETSU and Mercer are the only two teams in the conference who have not lost a conference game yet. The Bucs and the Bears will meet next Thursday, Jan. 25 in Johnson City, Tenn.
Tarter on the Watch Lists
So far this season, Tianna Tarter has been named to the Nancy Lieberman Watch List and the Citizen Naismith Trophy Award Watch List. She has also been named one of thirty candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.
Spreading the Wealth
All ten Bucs have scored more than 45 total points this season.
Series History vs. Furman
This will be the 60th meeting in program history as the Paladins hold a 39-20 all-time record against the Bucs. ETSU won both contests last year and currently have a two-game win streak going against the Paladins.
Furman is coming off of a close battle with UNCG after falling 76-74 in two overtimes, which puts them at 2-2 in conference play. Their two conference wins come from Samford and Western Carolina, which sits them at fourth in the conference, tied with Wofford and UNCG. Cierra Carter, Le’Jzae Davidson, and Celena Taborn are the Paladins top scorers as they all average double figures. Carter is also their top rebounder. Throughout the season, Furman has outscored their opponents 1,252-1,184.
The Bucs will travel to Wofford on Saturday, Jan. 20 for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off time.
