Saturday is Fan Appreciation Day

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 26, 2018) – Despite Thursday night’s loss against SoCon favorite Mercer, the Bucs get right back on the court on Saturday to host Samford for Fan Appreciation Day. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. inside Brooks Gym. Both teams are coming off losses and are eager to get a win.

Fan Appreciation Day

Following the game, fans are invited for a postgame autograph session to get signatures from coaches and players.

Scouting the Buccaneers

 ETSU comes into Saturday’s game sitting at 12-9 and 5-1 in the SoCon. The Bucs hold sole possession of second place. In Thursday’s game, ETSU had four players finish in double figures; Tianna Tarter (21), Erica Haynes-Overton (12), Shy Copney (11), and Sadasia Tipps (10). In conference only stats, the Bucs rank second in scoring offense, field goal percentage, rebounding defense, steals, and turnover margin.

Rebounding Machines

Eight different Bucs have led the team in rebounding in one or more games this season. Britney Snowden (Pensacola, Fla.) leads this category with six games as ETSU’s leading rebounder. Sadasia Tipps (Hickory, N.C.) and Erica Haynes-Overton (Nashville, Tenn.) each have had four games.

Nationally Ranked

Freshman Erica Haynes-Overton is ranked third in the nation in steals. She also leads the SoCon in steals.

200 Career Wins

Coach Ezell is just six wins away from notching her 200th career win.

300 Points

Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Erica Haynes-Overton each have scored more than 300 points this season. Tarter has scored 348 points, while Haynes-Overton has scored 304 points.

Spreading the Wealth

All ten Bucs have scored more than 50 total points this season.

Series History

This will be the ninth meeting in program history. Samford leads the series 5-3. ETSU won both regular season contests, but Samford beat the Bucs in the quarterfinals in last year’s SoCon Tournament.

Scouting Samford

Samford comes into Saturday’s contest with a 10-11 overall record and 2-4 in conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off a hard fought battle on the road against Chattanooga. The Bulldogs fell 68-58 in overtime. As a team, Samford ranks second in the SoCon with three-pointers made per game, assists per game, and in defensive rebound percentage. Charity Brown ranks 18th in the nation in assist per game. Hannah Nichols leads her team in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game. She’s also her team’s most prominent rebounder.
