BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Feb. 22, 2018) – The ETSU women’s basketball team outlasted the Samford Bulldogs 64-52 on the road to improve to 11-2 in the conference. The team also gave Coach Ezell her 200th career win.
Inside the Numbers
The Bucs conclude their regular season when they take on the Mercer Bears in Macon, Ga. this Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m.
“It was not anything that I would want to repeat, said head coach Brittney Ezell. “It was grinded out. It was tough. Our kids were just tough today. They had a resolve about them. They didn’t want to lose. They were good from the free throw line. We didn’t shoot it great today, but we still turned Samford over today 23 times. We got 16 offensive rebounds. We were on the glass. It wasn’t for lack of works. Sometimes the ball just won’t fall, but we got after it. Their first quarter was their best quarter and then we held them to 11, 13, and 11. I can’t say enough about our kids. They are just tough and winning on the road is tough. It’s always nice to leave with a win. That’s now a sweep of Chatt, a sweep of Furman and now a sweep of Samford. That’s big time for a team in my locker room that was picked fourth in the preseason poll.”
On her 200th career win… “It’s flattering. It’s overwhelming. There’s been a lot of hands that have gone into those ball games, especially my mom and dad who were my first ever coaches. I want to do them proud, along with my college coach. I have former players here. I’ve got former teammates here. It means a lot to me. It’s definitely a team statistic. I will definitely celebrate with our kids. We’ll get some rest and roll down to Mercer. We’ll see how it goes for their senior day. They’ve had a remarkable season. They are #25 in the country. It’ll be a big test for us and a good measuring stick for us as we head into next week as the two seed.”
