JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2018) – The ETSU women’s basketball team heads to the 2018 Southern Conference Tournament in Asheville, N.C. at the U.S. Cellular Center with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
The Buccaneers head into the SoCon Tournament as the No. 2 seed after finishing the regular season with an 11-3 record. ETSU will match-up with the No. 7 seed Wofford on Thursday, March 1 at 3:30 p.m. The blue and gold swept the season series against the Terriers. If the Bucs advance, they will play the winner of the match-up between No. 3 seed Chattanooga and the No. 6 seed UNCG.

Along with the information provided, there are special events that are going on throughout the weekend in Asheville:
Pack Square in downtown Asheville will be populated with games and interactives for kids, as well as, cheerleaders, bands, and mascots. KidsFEST will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 11 a.m., with the start of the DownTown Driblle. Each kid participating in the Downtown Dribble will receive a free T-shirt and basketball, as well as have the opportunity to participate in a dribble parade from Pack Square to the front door of the U.S. Cellular Center. Participants in the Downtown Dribble will also receive FREE admission to the men’s quarterfinal session at noon.
Make a small donation to Mission Children’s Hospital and you will receive a stuffed animal to throw on the court during the 2018 SoCon Teddy Bear Toss. Bears thrown will be donated to the Mission Children’s Hospital and provided to kids visiting the hospital for treatments. 1,500 bears are available and ready to put a smile on the face of a child.
The second annual Ingles JAMFEST will take place outside the U.S. Cellular Center between the end of the women’s championship game and prior to the men’s semifinals. Ingles JAMFEST is an outdoor tailgate party featuring popular area recording artists Joe Lasher Jr., and Lyric, local food, and beverage vendors. Musicians are scheduled to play on stage from 1:30-3:45 p.m. Ingles JAMFEST will also help to benefit Eblen Charities and its Hoops Against Hunger initiative.
The finals day of competition at the 2018 SoCon Championship will honor the people and organizations that help enrich and keep people safe every day. Members of the military, fire, police, emergency and medical service, charitable organizations government, and civil service will be afforded an opportunity to witness the men’s championship game at 9 p.m.
Childhood hunger statistics report that one out of five children does not have enough food at home. Many times, the meals hungry children receive at school are the only food that they will have to eat. Anyone bringing an approved food item will receive $5 off a single-session ticket for any session. Collection bins will also be located at all host hotels during the tournament.
