SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 8, 2018) – Senior guard Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) has been named the SoCon Player of the Month for the month of February, as selected by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
Tarter averaged 39 minutes per game in seven games during the month averaging 19.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 3.29 steals per game. She led her team to a 5-2 record in February helping her team clinch the No. 2 seed in the SoCon Tournament finishing the regular season with an 11-3 record.
The Johnson City native has played a huge role in ETSU’s conference success. She began the month with 10 points against UNCG. At Western Carolina, Tarter had the team high of 23 points, following that performance with eight rebounds, eight assists, and three steals. She once again had the team high of 27 points, recording her fourth double-double of the season and her 16th of her career after tallying 10 rebounds against their sweep of Chattanooga. Her third 20-point performance came from Wofford, when she finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Tarter continued to finish in double figures after she had 10 points, six assists, and five steals against Furman. Her fourth 20-point performance of the month came against the Bucs’ road win at Samford. She finished ETSU’s regular season game with 14 points.
Throughout February, Tarter finished each game in double figures. On her senior day against Furman, Tarter became ETSU’s all-time career free throw leader. The senior was all named First Team All-SoCon for the third straight year and earned a spot on the All-Tournament First Team.
Tarter and the rest of the Bucs await their WNIT destination and opponent. The WNIT bracket will be announced Monday, March 12 in the evening.
