JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 26, 2018) – On Thursday, ETSU women’s basketball head coach Brittney Ezell announced the addition of transfer Kacie Fountain (Walker, La.) to the 2018-19 roster. Fountain is a 5’7” guard from Walker, La.
Fountain transferred from Southwest Mississippi Community College. She was ninth in the nation in assists and participated in the Mississippi All Star Game. She anchored the backcourt for the Lady Bears during the 2017-18 season and led her team with six assists per game, which was ninth in the NJCAA.
Prior to Southwest Mississippi, Fountain began her collegiate career at Murray State. During the 2015-16 season, she averaged 3.7 minutes playing in ten games before suffering a season-ending injury. She redshirted throughout the 2016-17 season.
Fountain attended Walker High School in Walker, La., where she averaged 13.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and three steals per game as a senior. She led her team to its first state tournament appearance since 2009 and their first title game since 1997. Fountain was named All-State, All-District, All-Parish and All-Baton Rouge Area and was named Parish Playmaker of the Year in her final season. She was also a top ten scorer in the state as a freshman.
“Kacie is the epitome of tough,” said head coach Brittney Ezell. “She is a floor leader and a relentless worker. She is one of the most unselfish players that I have seen in a long time and finds ways to create success for her team in every scenario. Kacie can play multiple positions and will bring a level of experience to our guard unit. Kacie perfectly fits our mantra of “Blue Collar – Gold Standard” and we are excited to have her join our program.”
