ETSU looks to remain undefeated at home in conference play

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 8, 2019) – The ETSU women’s basketball team concludes a three-game homestand on Saturday, when they host conference rival Chattanooga. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. and the Bucs are eager to remain undefeated against conference opponents on their home confines of Brooks Gym.


Saturday’s game is Fan Appreciation Day and the presenting game sponsor is Citi. Fans can enjoy posters, a post-game autograph session, pictures with the team and alumni. The first 750 fans will receive a Brittney Ezell bobblehead sponsored by Johnson City Honda. Saturday’s game is also Alumni Day for ETSU women’s basketball, as they welcome former players from all decades.

ETSU has been dominant on their home court of Brooks Gym, winning all four conference games at home. The Bucs average 986 fans per game. ETSU also averages 79 points per game. Erica Haynes-Overton (Nashville, Tenn.) has scored just under 20 points per game in Brooks. She’s also only 182 points away from scoring 1,000 career-points and would become the third sophomore in program history to achieve this milestone.

The Bucs are second in the SoCon in scoring (67.5) and steals (8.7). Haynes-Overton, Micah Scheetz (Knoxville, Tenn.), Britney Snowden (Pensacola, Fla.) and Raven Dean (Charlotte, N.C.) all rank in the top 30 in scoring. Haynes-Overton and Scheetz average in double figures. Sadasia Tipps (Hickory, N.C.) leads the Bucs in rebounds and blocked shots.

ETSU has used six different lineups this season. The most recent lineup of Haynes-Overton, Upton, Scheetz, Dean, and Snowden are 2-0 at home.  


Chattanooga has an 11-11 overall record and are second in the SoCon with a 6-1 record. The Mocs have won their last three games and Mercer has been the only team to defeat the Mocs in conference action. They average 63.0 points per game and 72.1 points in the conference.

Lakelyn Bouldin has started in all 22 games for Chattanooga to lead her team in points (12.7) and three-pointers (38). She also leads the SoCon in free throws, shooting 86.5 on the charity stripe. Defensively Eboni Williams leads the Mocs in rebounds and Arianne Whitaker currently leads the Mocs in blocks (31).


Saturday marks the 85th all-time meeting between the two programs. The Mocs lead the series 61-23.


The last time both teams met was earlier this season on Jan. 12 in the conference opener. ETSU fell to Chattanooga 76-67. Micah Scheetz scored a team high of 19 points, going 5-5 from the charity stripe. Lexus Spears also scored in double figures, finishing with 13 points. Spears also led the Bucs with seven rebounds.

ETSU travels to South Carolina for their first road swing in February. They will play Wofford on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 11:00 a.m. for The Terriers’ Education Day. Following Thursday’s game, ETSU will take on Furman on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2:00 p.m.
