GREENSBORO, N.C. (Sept. 24, 2005) - The East Tennessee State men's cross country team won the team title at the Greensboro Invitational, with a perfect 15-point score in the Division I team standings, Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. Senior Peter Dalton (Dublin, Ireland) led the way for the Buccaneers, cruising to a 30-second win in 26:02.6, over the 8,000-meter course.
Jeff Crane (Taylors, S.C.) took the runner-up slot, finishing in 26:32.6. Washington and Lee's Alex Mahoney finished third, breaking-up the Buccaneer pack, but did not factor in the DI team scoring. Buccaneer Jordan Ladd (Lyn, Ontario) placed fourth-overall, and third for the Bucs, clocking a time of 26:26.8.
Finishing fourth for ETSU and fifth overall, was Joshua Hicks (Riceville, Tenn.), who crossed the finish line in 26:41.6. Rounding out the ETSU scoring was Bernard Towett (Nairobi, Kenya), finishing the race in 26:46.9, for sixth-place. ETSU's 15 points bested Tennessee Tech with 48 points, and North Carolina A&T with 72, in the DI scoring.
Also running well on the day was senior Christine Ward (Candler, N.C.), the only member of the women's team to compete on Saturday. Ward finished the 5,000-meter course in 19:29.1, good for second-place honors.
Next up for the Buccaneer harriers is the Moutaineer Opener in Boone, N.C., scheduled for Friday, Sept. 30.
